WITH 50 percent of the eligible population in Mandaue City already vaccinated, the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) is looking forward to a more upbeat economic activity in the city.

According to MCCI president Steven Yu, attaining a 50 percent and above full vaccinated status will mean a more manageable health situation, and reopening of the economy to save the livelihoods of many.

“With this development, we expect a sustainable reopening of the economy once we achieve herd immunity which becomes very much attainable before yearend,” he said.

On Sunday, Mandaue City announced it became the first local government unit (LGU) in Cebu Province to vaccinate 50 percent of its eligible population with two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Mandaue City has a total population of 422,463, of which the eligible population, or those at least 18 years old, is 307,454.

Mandaue City also introduced every Friday night, its night vaccination from 4 to 9 p.m., and every weekend, the mobile vaccination clinic operates at the barangays.

It also continued to push its vaccination rollout by introducing accessible ways and programs to encourage people to get jabbed.

As of Sept. 21, 2021, Mandaue City has fully vaccinated a total of 154,576 individuals (50.28 percent) while 173,838 (56.54 percent) already received their first dose for a total of 328,414 doses given.

Yu said he is grateful for the leadership of Mayor Jonas Cortes and the whole LGU for always collaborating with the private sector in crafting the progress of the city.

“With this achievement, Mandaue City will be the front- runner in economic recovery. It has not only saved many lives, but has uplifted the livelihoods of the Mandauehanons,” he said. (JOB)
