A CEBUANO chef who is now based in Saskatchewan, Canada was among those awarded by an United States-based organization for his work to help others during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Joseph Buddy Amodia Jr. was one of the recipients of the 1st Filipino Heroes Award, a project and hosted by the Filipino Ethnic Community of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification based in the United States.

Amodia was recognized for his community service to the less fortunate through financial aid and wheelchair donations.

He is also honored for his honesty after he returned a purse that he found that contained valuebles.

The award is aimed to honor first responders and health workers who sacrificed a lot amid the pandemic. It was also done to highlight and give recognition to what the Filipinos are doing for others and for the betterment of America and Canada.

Amodia is the only individual awardee from Canada. The group also gave recognition to organizations and foundations.

Before he migrated to Canada, Amodia has worked for a number of famous resorts in Cebu including Be Resort and Maribago Bluewater in Lapu-Lapu City; and Sumilon Island Resort in Boljoon.

In Canada, he is working as a culinary chef instructor at Indiana Aerospace University and the Line Cook at the Fox and Hounds Pub & Brewery.

He also hosts a cooking segment on FTV Channel’s Around Saskatchewan which is aired all over Canada.
