Kekert: From Cebu to London

Kristalle Kekert

SHOWCASING a diverse interpretation of exquisite creations of the modern Filipiniana, designer Philipp Tampus made his fashion debut in the United Kingdom for the very first time! Dazzling the crowd by walking down the runaway were Cebu’s very own couple Justin and Bianca (neé Lopez) Salimbangon.

The exclusive event surrounding the London Fashion Week entitled “Creative Economy Through Fashion” organized by Marie Fairbank, took place at the House of Lords inside the Houses of Parliament at Westminister, with a total of 16 adult and two child models. It was an honor to welcome Philippine Ambassador Frank Cimafranca and his wife Lucila present during the event.

Showing off the sophisticated 20-piece collection, the models stepped out in glamorous pieces with elegant colors inspired by the Philippine national flower, the sampaguita, with other beautiful fabrics and detailed materials such as the Argao hablon and piña cocoon, all perfectly executed!

At a separate event as part of the London Fashion Week, Bianca stepped out on the runway—the first Cebuana ever to do so—on the final segment for the youngest UK designer, Josh Birchjones, at The House of Ikons.

Tampus shared: “London, being one of the world’s fashion capitals where you will find famous fashion icons, was a dream to visit. And as a fashion designer myself, it was a dream come true! With the help and trust of friends that gave me this opportunity to represent myself as a Filipino designer to showcase my creations at the London Fashion Week at The House of Lords and The House of Ikons, it makes me very thankful that I can do my country proud.”
