2 arrested for rape in Cebu

TWO persons who were on the Most Wanted Persons list in Central Visayas were arrested in Cebu on Monday, March 21, 2022, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced late Tuesday.

Zaldie Madungog, 65, married and a resident of Barangay Mantuyong, Mandaue City, was nabbed at 8:10 a.m. in Barangay Nangka, Consolacion, Cebu for two counts of rape by sexual assault.

He was No. 2 on the region’s Most Wanted Persons list.

Madungog was the subject of two arrest warrants for cases of rape by sexual assault.

One warrant was issued by Presiding Judge Mercedita Dadole-Ygnacio of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 28 of Mandaue City, while the other warrant was issued by Presiding Judge Ferdie Esperedion Riveral of RTC Branch 87, also in Mandaue City, the PNP said in a statement.

For each of Madungog’s two criminal cases, the judges recommended bail of P200,000.

Personnel from the Mandaue City Police Office, Consolacion Municipal Police Station and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 conducted Madungog’s arrest.

It was also not a good morning for Rex Redillas Gunhuran, 47, who was arrested in Sitio Labsalex, Barangay Labangon, Cebu City last Monday.

Personnel of the Consolacion Municipal Police Station, City Mobile Force Company of the Cebu City Police Office, Regional Intelligence Unit 7 and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 7 - Mandaue City Field Unit came for him at 10 a.m., ending his perch at No. 7 on the region’s Most Wanted Persons list.

Presiding Judge Jose Nataniel Salazar Andal of RTC Branch 24, Cebu City issued the arrest warrant against Gunhuran for statutory rape, for which no bail was recommended, and acts of lasciviousness, for which bail was recommended at P200,000. (CTL)
