AS HE takes on the challenging task of being the fifth bishop-elect of the Diocese of Malolos, Bulacan, outgoing Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Dennis Villarojo has promised to be a good listener to the Malolos people just as he had been to the Cebuanos.

“We will try to listen to and get to know the community. The first thing is acquaintance, develop friendship, relationship as pastor and flock. Perhaps, they can also listen to me, and there will be a meeting of heart and mind,” he said.

Villarojo, who will take the place of the late Malolos Bishop Jose Oliveros (who died of prostate cancer at the age of 71), will be replaced by Rev. Fr. Medyphil Billones, rector of Saint Joseph Regional Seminary.

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma announced Villarojo’s new assignment during a gathering of priests and the media at the Filipiniana Hall of the Archbishop’s Residence last May 15, 2019.

Villarojo’s family, friends and fellow members of the clergy in Cebu, including Archbishop Palma, joined him at his send-off ceremony dubbed “Panugon” at the IC3 Convention Center Cebu on Tuesday, July 30, 2019.

“It’s a message of gratitude for being such a wonderful auxiliary bishop and also the assurance of prayer for where he is being reassigned,” said Palma. (WBS)
