HEAVY rains on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, flooded several areas in Metro Cebu due to a trough, or extension of tropical depression Liwayway.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the downpour will continue until Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Liwayway sustained maximum winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour (km/h) near its center and gusts of up to 55 km/h, moving northwest at 20 km/h.

Based on the Pagasa forecast, Liwayway is less likely to make landfall.

At 3 p.m., the riprap of Deca Homes in Hidden Valley, Barangay Tisa, Cebu City gave way, resulting in a landslide.

Although no houses were affected, eight motorcycles parked in the area were buried.

Several sitios in the barangay also reported heavy flooding, with water in some areas neck deep.

Pagasa Visayas officer-in-charge Al Quiblat said the weather bureau will not declare any signal warning in Central Visayas.

Based on the data collected by Pagasa Mactan station from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, rains of up to 15 millimeters, or equivalent to 75,000 drums of water, fell in Cebu. (FROM HBL OF SUPERBALITA CEBU / JGS)
