THE newborn baby from Barangay Hipodromo, Cebu City who tested positive for the new coronavirus is now negative from the virus based on its subsequent test, announced Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella Wednesday April 22, 2020.

Labella said the Cebu City Health Department is continuously monitoring the mother and her newborn baby. The two are still in a hospital.

On Tuesday, Dr. Jaime Bernadas, Department of Health-Central Visayas director, said the baby boy is one of the new seven cases recorded in Cebu City.

The DOH-Central Visayas said the infant was tested after his mother showed symptoms of the disease.

But Bernadas said the presence of a newborn case in the region needs further validation on how transmission occurred since the mother tested negative.

Bernadas then urged pregnant women to continue monitoring themselves as they have “a more than usual vulnerability.”
