NINETY percent of the 4,203 workers retrenched at the Mactan Economic Zone in Lapu-Lapu City received cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD 7).

DSWD 7 Director Shalaine Lucero told SunStar Cebu on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, that they released P18,122,680 to 3,729 retrenched workers during their payouts on Monday, October 3, and Tuesday, October 4, at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.

Lucero said 474 workers, or 10 percent of their target beneficiaries, did not show up during the two-day distribution.

Lucero assured that those who failed to claim the financial assistance would be contacted by their companies and the agency would coordinate with the Lapu-Lapu City Government to schedule another payout.

She said their Provincial Social Welfare and Development teams would cater to those who had gone home to their provinces. (HIC)
