AN OFFICIAL of a local fraternity and former barangay councilor was gunned down by two men onboard a motorcycle on Tres de Abril St., Barangay Calamba, Cebu City at 5:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 8, 2021.

Richard Buscaino, Central Visayas chapter president of the Alpha Kappa Rho (Akhro) fraternity, died instantly after sustaining four gunshot wounds on his body.

Police Staff Sergeant Vincent Gonzalve, investigator of the Sawang Calero Police Station, told reporters that Buscaino was driving toward the interior section of Barangay Labangon when the two men riding a motorcycle in tandem ambushed him. Both men were wearing full-faced helmets.

After shooting Buscayno, they fled towards Barangay Labangon. Gonzalve said the killers may have monitored Buscaino’s movement. Police recovered six empty shells from an unidentified gun at the crime scene. Gonzalve said they need to look into the killing to determine a motive.

Aside from being an Akhro official, Buscaino was a businessman and a former public official. Buscaino owns the San Fernando Funeral Homes, which is situated near the area he was gunned down. He was also a former councilor of Barangay Calamba.

This was not the first time that Buscaino was involved in a shooting incident. In 2018, Buscaino sought the assistance of former Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña after he received death threats through texts. On the same year, Buscaino’s car was strafed by unidentified perpetrators while it was parked in front of his funeral parlor. (GPL / JKV)
