OVERLOADING and no proper ventilation were the most common violations by public utility vehicles (PUVs) plying Cebu Province, as reported by the chiefs of police in the towns and cities, said Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Garcia also made the assessment after she conducted a random inspection of the Province’s border checkpoints on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021.

Garcia said the initial assessment of the local police is that there are some PUVs that don’t have the provincial public utility vehicle pass.

Most taxis also do not follow the no-air-conditioning policy as some passengers ask to use the air conditioner especially during daytime.

However, Garcia asked all PUVs to follow the executive order to curb Covid-19 transmission which usually occurs in public transportation.

She also asked all passengers to observe protocol after having seen taxis that were overloading.

Garcia did the first inspection at the checkpoints in 21 towns and cities on Saturday, Aug. 14.

“I’m just hoping that we’ll all work together during this time especially the passengers,” Garcia said.

Meanwhile, Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) Director PCol. Engelbert Soriano said 216 wearable purifiers are to be distributed in all police checkpoints in Cebu Province.

During the first inspection on Aug. 14, the CPPO distributed two air purifiers in each checkpoint, while four purifiers were distributed in each checkpoint on Aug. 18.

Soriano said the Philippine National Police officers conducting inspections in PUVs shall also wear air purifiers. (MVE)
