A 36-YEAR-OLD man was arrested on Thursday afternoon, September 27, after he allegedly tried to smuggle illegal drugs hidden in his anus inside the Cebu City Jail in Barangay Kalunasan.

The suspect, Gilbert Castro Zabate, yielded 30 ampules believed to contain Nalbuphine and a pack containing white crystals believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu.

The contraband is worth P196,000, a Dangerous Drugs Board value.

Before he was caught, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) received a report through "Itug-an ni CD" hotline, CCPO Director Royina Garma's anti-criminality program, about Zabate's illegal activity.

The informant reported that Zabate was about to sneak in the contraband in the jail facility.

A team from Guadalupe Police Station then waited for Zabate.

When the suspect arrived outside the jail facility and saw the police officers, he became uneasy.

Zabate allegedly threw 10 ampules to the ground. This was seen by the operatives, who apprehended him.

The suspect then admitted he hid the other contraband in his anus.

Complaints for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, will be filed against the suspect. (KAL)
