SOME P1.8 million in assistance went from the Mandaue City Social Welfare Services Office (CSWS) to some residents in need of help with different bills.

About 300 persons from 27 barangays went to the City Cultural and Sports Complex on Friday morning for the program.

Jessie Perez, who heads the CSWS, said that the cash went to constituents who had asked for help with hospital bills, medicines or laboratory procedures, or burial expenses.

Among those assisted were college students who each received P3,000.

Perez explained that the CSWS examines each request brought up by Mandaue City residents before they are deemed qualified for the assistance. The amount also depends on the social welfare office’s assessment.

The amounts released ranged from P5,000 to P20,000, depending on what the person’s needs were and the CSWS personnel’s findings.

Mandaue City regularly distributes cash to qualified senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Survivors of calamities like fires are also given assistance to help them get back on their feet. (JPP of Superbalita)
