POLICE believe that the person responsible for the killing of a vegetable vendor in San Fernando, Cebu is a resident of the same barangay where the victim was residing and might had been monitoring the victim’s movement.

The vegetable vendor was found dead in a ravine near her house in Barangay Greenhills, San Fernando around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2022.

She was identified as Diomedesa Lapera Gedaro, 67. Her neck was almost cut with only a skin holding it.

Staff Sergeant Paul Baclay of San Fernando Police Station, in an interview with SunStar Cebu, said they went to the area after receiving a call from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) around noon and saw the victim already dead with a cut in the neck.

The victim was discovered by some residents, who in turn informed the MDRRMO about their findings.

"Panit na lang ang naghawid sa liog sa biktima nagkawil-kawil, giguroy siya ngadto sa kabugangan. Makita ang patak-patak sa dugo 30 metros gikan sa barangay (Only the skin was holding the victim's neck, she was dragged toward the ravine. Drops of blood can be seen 30 meters from the barangay)," Baclay said.

Baclay said the victim might have been killed early in the morning since the blood had dried up already.

The victim reportedly would go to the market early in the morning to buy food.

Baclay said they still have to find out whether the victim was robbed before she was killed by gathering information from the relatives of the victim and some residents. (GPL, TPT)
