MisOr leans on veteran savvy in early test vs. Iligan

With their backs against the wall against the young Iligan Archangels squad, MisOr Brew Authoritea’s head coach Vis Valencia issued a challenge to the veteran-laden squad, saying they needed to use their savvy to their advantage.

“Iligan is younger than us. Hindi tayo puwedeng makipagsabayan sa kanila,” said Valencia.

Cebuano wingman Joseph Sedurifa and his teammates heard the challenge loud and clear and responded decisively, unleashing a huge 22-4 bomb that turned a 42-52 deficit to a 64-56 lead at the 4:05 mark.

“Ang mindset lang namin is parang test sa character namin iyong fourth quarter kasi we were down 10,” shared Sedurifa, the former University of Southern Philippines Foundation standout who scored eight of his 16 points in the all-important fourth frame, to go with eight rebounds, four assists, and a steal.

“Thankfully sinuwerte pumasok ang mga tira namin at nag shift na ang momentum. Thanks to Coach Vis sa challenge niya sa amin.”

Apart from getting the win, Brew Authoritea also felt that the adversity made them a lot closer.

“Sign of maturity namin bumabalik na kasi nga our team is full of veterans so stick lang kami sa process. Huminto kasi kami ng 15 days sa practice, kaka-start lang ulit namin,” added Sedurifa.

But more than the points put on the board by his players, Valencia was pleased with how they generated points in the payoff period as all seven of their field goals were assisted.

“The ball was moving well. These are veteran players kumbaga kaya nilang dumiskarte pero I told them hindi natin pwedeng laruin ng one-on-one,” revealed Valencia.

“I told them we have to execute the patterns and they did. I’m happy nakapagexecute kami ng plays na higher percentage shots.” (JNP)
