THE 22-hectare Matina Golf Club will soon be converted into a major commercial sub-zone as it passed its reclassification application on second reading in the Davao City Council.

Item 1675 under Councilor Bonifacio Militar was approved Friday, December 14, 2018.

“This is a welcome development for Davao City,” Militar said, adding that his committee already scrutinized some areas that may affect the city in the future. “The estimated budget is P57 billion. There will surely be increase of employment, more amenities,” he added.

Davao City Councilor Maria Belen Acosta questioned the future traffic situation in the area. “We know that that highway is a main thoroughfare and also [has] heavy traffic [flow] especially during peak hours. We want to be assured that there are mitigating measures being done so that it will not worsen,” Acosta said.

Jose Franco Soberano, Yhest Realty and Development Corporation representative and Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI) chief operating officer (COO), assured the council that they have prepared separate ingress and egress points and car parks as a solution to the traffic situation.

During the council session, Soberano also presented specific areas to be developed and discussed the sustainability initiatives.

“This project is going to be called the Davao Global Township which was inspired by the many townships we have in Manila and Cebu,” Soberano said, adding that this is the best time to transform the area into a business park.
