Clavite tops Palero chessfest

ALEXANDER Clavite captured the title of the just-concluded Jojo Gener Palero Invitational Fide Rated Round Robin Tournament held at Mamay Inn and Resort along Mamay Road in Barangay Angliongto, Davao City.

Fourth-seeded Clavite tallied seven points after the nine-round Swiss System format chessfest. He prevailed over six pointers top seed Alfred Moulic, Cyrus Donasco and Jose Barba who placed second, third and fourth, respectively.

Clavite was unbeaten, winning five matches against Cyrhea Atog, Mark John Centillo, Rockey Pagkaliwagan, Clint Nikko Baja Morales and Barba. He split points with Moulic, Richard Togonon, Donasco and Lorenzo P. Cuizon, Jr.

The event was organized by Jojo Palero, an arbiter of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.
