DEFTAC Davao brought home a total of seven gold medals and one silver in the Asia Pacific Jiu Jitsu Championship 2019 held at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu over the weekend.

Dr. Jonathan Narisma, resident physician of Davao Medical School Foundation Hospital (DMSFH), led the Davao City team’s medal haul with two golds in purple belt masters 2 middleweight nogi and masters 2 Gi middleweight categories.

“Deftac Davao team has once again brought pride to Davao City,” Narisma said via Facebook Monday, June 3.

He defeated Marvin Martillano of Rizal Martial Arts Center in their purple belt masters 2 middleweight nogi championship match then he was unopposed in masters 2 Gi middleweight.

Richard Romero, for his part, also clinched two golds after beating John Capuyan of Ormoc Jiu Jitsu team in their white belt adult featherweight nogi titular showdown while he subdued Jannel Mangubat of 90/Eight BJJ in adult Gi featherweight division finals.

Francis de Guzman, meanwhile, outclassed Daryl Mokaraka of Barbosa Jiu Jitsu for the purple belt masters 2 lightweight nogi gold but he settled for the Masters 1 Gi lightweight silver having lost to Ferdinand Salonga of Atos.

Jam Peralta (blue belt adult light featherweight nogi) and Adonis Vidanes (blue belt adult rooster Gi) contributed one goal each.

Narisma added, “Humakot din kami ng medals last year although mas konti lang kami ngayon na competitors as compared last year.” The 2018 edition of the annual event was also held in Cebu.

Tournament newbie Inessa Camomot, however, failed to qualify in the medal match as he was eliminated earlier.

Deftac Davao was coached by Miko Aquino, Dwight Tallo and Jan Hao.
