Lt. CIPRIANO Villafuerte Sr. Elementary School (LCVSES) Calinan Sluggers relished its title victory in the 13th Davao City Baseball Cup 2019 over the weekend since it last tasted a championship seven years ago.

LCVSES dethroned defending champion Baguio Central Elementary School (BCES), 6-2, in the elementary finals match with Kierbhe Kent Lawag hailed as most valuable player (MVP).

The Calinan-based squad, coached by Aileen Suniega and Edna Salpocial, reigned the cup on its first to fifth editions from 2006 to 2010.

The BCES then snatched the title and became four-peat champions from 2011 to 2014. Bayabas Elementary School ruled 2015 and 2016 before BCES won back the crown last year.

The BCES placed second while Tawantawan Elementary School and Upian Elementary School came third and fourth, respectively. The TES clobbered UES, 4-0, in the battle for third.

In the high school division, Baguio National School of Arts and Trade (BNSAT) scored a grand slam following a 10-1 rousing victory over arch-rival Crossing Bayabas National High School (CBNHS) in their titular showdown. The latter was second as Digos City National High School grabbed the third spot and A.O. Floirendo NHS placed fourth.

The BNSAT also held the title the past two years.

James Vincent Nisnisan romped away with the MVP honors.

The annual Davao City Baseball Cup is jointly organized by the Datu Uchida Development Foundation, Inc., Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School (PNJKIS) and Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku.

Tokyo Kichijoji Lions Club is major sponsor.
