KABAYAN Party-list Representative Ciriaco Calalang, 67, passed away early Sunday, September 23, after a massive stroke.

Kabayan Party-list Representative Ron Salo said the public wake for Calalang will be at the St. Peter Memorial Chapels along Quezon Avenue in Quezon City starting Wednesday, September 26, at 5 p.m.

Calalang was the third nominee of the Kabayan Party-list.

He was sworn in as congressman last January 20, replacing former Kabayan Representative Harry Roque who was appointed as spokesperson of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Calalang was a law professor at the Manuel L. Quezon University. He was also a tax consultant and a certified public accountant.

Salo said despite Calalang's brief stint, he was able to author at least 47 bills.

"Rep. Calalang's public service as a congressman was brief but it was time and energies well-spent. He was able to author and co-author 47 house measures and helped raise public awareness about Kabayan's platform and his key advocacies on juvenile justice, education, senior citizens, criminal justice, public transportation, and land use," Salo said.

"Rep. Calalang was the good, favorite uncle within Kabayan. We will miss him dearly," Salo added. (Keith A. Calayag/SunStar Philippines)
