Floods reported in Eastern Visayas; 'Usman' stationary

(UPDATED) - Flooding was reported in some parts of Eastern Visayas region Friday, December 28, as Tropical Depression Usman continued to move erratically towards the region.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the severe weather system, which has maintained strength, has been almost stationary since 2 p.m. Friday, December 28, although it was still forecast to hit land Friday night or early Saturday morning. .

At 1 p.m., Pagasa said it was spotted about 250 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. At 4 p.m., "Usman" was estimated at 285 kilometers east of Guiuan. At 7 p.m., the weather system has moved slowly westward as it was spotted about 240 kilometers east of Guiuan.

The Catarman Municipal Police Station, in a Facebook post, said six barangays were flooded as of 3:30 p.m. Friday. These are Barangays Calachuchi, Airport Village, Baybay, Talisay, Yakal and Molave.

As of 4 p.m., Lope de Vega town in Northern Samar was not passable to all types of vehicles, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its 6:30 p.m. situation report.
