LPA east of Basco, Batanes now a tropical depression

THE low pressure area (LPA) that was spotted east of Basco, Batanes has developed into a tropical depression and was named "Nimfa."

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, the center of Nimfa was located at 640 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gusts of up to 70 km/h.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said it is almost stationary.

Meanwhile, another LPA was spotted at 95 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales.

Pagasa is monitoring it, as well as the Southwest Monsoon (habagat), which is affecting Central and southern Luzon and Western Visayas. (LMY/SunStar Philippines)
