THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office in Soccsksargen has reminded employers that the new minimum wage rate for domestic workers in the region will take effect on Sunday, February 23.

In a statement, DOLE Soccsksargen (DOLE-12) Director Sisinio Cano said the new monthly salary of a domestic worker is P4,000 in cities and 1st class municipalities, and P3,500 in other municipalities.

Wage Order RB XII-DW-02, issued on January 21 by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB), approved the P1,500 adjustment on the monthly pay of household workers.

Covered are those with stay-in or stay-out arrangements, such as general househelp, baby-sitter (yaya), cook, gardener, laundry person, and any person, who regularly performs domestic work in one household or on occupational basis.

Not covered are service providers, family drivers, children under foster family arrangements, and any person who performs work occasionally or sporadically and not on occupational basis. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
