A MAN died while his brother was injured after they were shot by two unidentified men on a motorcycle at Purok Malinawon in Barangay Poblacion, Toboso, Negros Occidental early Friday morning.

Killed was Stephen Mahilum, 23. Injured was his younger brother Nico, 19.

Chief Inspector Ariel Pico, town police chief, said the victims were walking on their way home together with their three unidentified friends at 12:35 a.m. when one of the assailants fired at them.

“The gunman was targeting the older brother. He was shot at close range,” Pico said.

Mahilum died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds while his brother was brought to a hospital. Their three friends were unharmed.

Pico said the victims’ group is being suspected as members of the “akyat-bahay” gang in the village.

He added that they are also looking into the elder Mahilum’s involvement in a conflict when he stayed in Bacolod City.
