TWO former village officials from Minglanilla town, Cebu will face trial for their failure to submit their Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) for 2012.

The Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas found evidence to charge Ernesto Nable Jr., former Barangay Poblacion Ward IV councilor, and Stephanie Nables, former youth council member, with violation of Republic Act 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical standards for Public Officials and Employees).

“In the present case, respondents clearly failed to file their SALNs for 2012...It is basic that allegation is not evidence,” read the resolution penned by Eileen Mae Lagat-Alde, graft investigation and prosecution officer.

Replying to the charges, the respondents said their critics raised the issue of the non-filing of SALNs was an offshoot of the non-passage of their village’s annual budget.

In the resolution, Alde said that the respondents deliberately refused to submit their SALNs to the Department of Interior and Local Government or the ombudsman.
