6 workers positive of drugs

SIX workers of Barangay Poblacion Pardo tested positive for illegal drugs during a surprise drug test administered by the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap) yesterday.

Of the six, three are garbage truck loaders, two drivers and one tanod, Dr. Alice Utlang, chief of Cosap said. Utlang said those who tested positive in the initial test will undergo a confirmatory test.

The same urine samples that they submitted yesterday will be used for the confirmatory test, Utlang said. A total of 102 workers and officials of the village were asked by barangay captain Althea Lim to be at the barangay hall yesterday for a meeting but were later on told that they have to undergo the surprise drug test.

Lim, who led the drug testing, said that of the 102, only 87 were able to show up and submitted their urine samples for the drug test yesterday. Those who failed to show up yesterday will be asked to do it today with the presence of Cosap, Lim said. Lim said she requested the drug test yesterday to help her identify the workers whose appointments in the barangay will be renewed this year.

Lim said he wanted her barangay to be drug free, that’s why those who will test positive for illegal drug use will be removed from service.
