GOVERNOR Alfredo Marañon, Jr. said the Negros Occidental government will donate to the victims of the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that heavily affected Bohol and Cebu provinces.

"We will have to give something. We will see how much the province can afford," Marañon said, as he related the havoc created by the tremor especially on old and historical churches.

Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson also assured that the Provincial Council will pass the budget request of the governor for donation to the victims.

"In this kind of situation, it is better to be the giver than the receiver," Lacson said.

Meanwhile, the governor said they will help lobby for modern equipment for the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) especially its base in La Carlota City.

Marañon on said in terms of acquiring major equipment such the seismograph, it's the national agency especially the Phivolcs that can afford for such acquisition.
