Celebrating Nutrition Month with kids at SM City Clark

John Elmer Ubaldo

THERE was no stopping SM City Clark with its advocacy of promoting health and good nutrition among the young generation in line with the celebration of the Nutrition Month as it sponsored a whole day of healthy fun for the Mabalacat Day Care Center pupils.

Joining in the celebration were Vice Mayor Noel Castro and Kagawad Dan Bayani of Mabalacat. According to SM Clark Public Relations Officer Venus Manalang, this year's Nutrition Month celebration is guided by the theme, "Sa Pagkaing Wasto at Sapat, Wastong Timbang ni Baby ang Katapat."

"It was a whole day of fun and games and good food. SM is one with the nation in celebrating Nutrition Month and hopes that every child will have their share of a healthy life," Manalang said.

Manalang said also explained that this year's nutrition month focuses on adolescents' nutrition and health needs particularly on the preparation and consumption of nutritious foods such as vegetables and fruits.

She also quoted a World Health Organization study that the increasing prevalence and incidence of non-communicable diseases during adulthood are the results of faulty nutrition and lifestyles practices during pre-adolescence and adolescence phases.

Manalang added that due to these findings, there is a greater need to teach the youth today to practice healthy lifestyles and proper nutrition that will prepare them to become healthy and productive adults in the future.

"With these little activities, we hope that SM could drumbeat enough public awareness among mall goers of the importance of good nutrition," Manalang said.
