THE mummies in Kabayan are affected by climate change, the mayor of Kabayan said in a press conference Tuesday.

Kabayan Mayor Faustino Aquisan said moisture was found in the bodies of the Kabayan mummies during the recent inspection.

Aquisan said a request has been sent to the National Museum regarding the appearance of moist in the mummies.

A notice regarding the moist has already been sent to the National Museum, which helps in the preservation of the mummies. The mummies of Kabayan are under its management.

“We are afraid to touch the mummies. We are afraid that if we touch them, their condition will just get worse,” Aquisan said.

Aquisan added the moist might hasten the decay of the mummies.

Despite the present condition of the mummies, Aquisan said that many tourists are still arriving in Kabayan.
