Delinquent gun owners face raps

THE police authorities have filed illegal possession of firearms cases against eight gun holders, who are residents of Basilan province, after they have failed to renew their firearms licenses, Regional Special Operation Task Group (RSOTG)-Basilan commander Mario Yanga said.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has activated the RSOTG-Basilan to oversee the security in the province during the May 13, 2013 mid-term elections.

The filing of cases is in line with the Philippine National Police’s Oplan Katok,” a nationwide campaign against gun holders who failed to renew their gun license for two years and beyond, Chief Superintendent Yanga said.

He said it is also in line with the implementation of the election gun ban, which took effect in January until June. (Bong Garcia)
