'Drunk' man drowns off Carcar coast

A DRUNK man, who went fishing with his two drunk friends, drowned on Tuesday afternoon, November 7, in the seawaters off Sitio Bacsije, Barangay Ocaña, Carcar City, Cebu.

The fatality is identified as Bernardo Legaspi Cañadalla, said Chief Inpsector Randy Korret, the city police commander.

The 45-year-old victim's friends Romeo Bardinas Baring, 49, and Allan Espina Apawan, 32, survived.

Investigation showed Cañadalla, Baring and Apawan decided to fish after they drank several bottles of liquor.

Cañadalla used his newly purchased wooden boat.

After sailing about 500 meters from the shore around 2 p.m., a big wave struck the boat, causing it to overturn.

Cañadalla tried to swim back to the shore, but he drowned. His body was recovered by rescuers around 4 p.m. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
