John Paul II Tower being eyed as ‘firecracker zone’

John Paul V. Pepito

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia on Monday said they are still finalizing the location of the “firecracker zone” for retailers, although the Pope John Paul II Tower at the Reclamation Area is still being considered.

Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda met with a group of firecracker retailers at Bacolod Government Center Monday.

Leonardia said he is waiting for the recommendations of Pineda.

Last year, firecracker and pyrotechnic vendors were only allowed to display their goods behind the Pope John Paul II Tower.

Those selling outside the identified firecracker zone will be penalized, and their products will be confiscated.

Firecrackers and pyrotechnics retailers are also required to secure business permit from the City Mayor’s Office and Bacolod City Police Office Firearms Explosives Security Service Agency and Guards Supervisory Section.
