A FISHERMAN from Negros Occidental was rescued by police in Barangay Pitawe, Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte on January 2.

Police identified him as Rogelio Alburoto Aureje, 23.

Based on a Facebook post of Gutalac Municipal Police Station, Aureje and his two companions went fishing in Barangay Culipapa, Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental when heavy rains and strong winds brought by Tropical Depression “Agaton” swept their pumpboat towards Mindanao.

The boat also experienced an engine trouble.

Aureje’s companions also survived.

Lieutenant Senior Grade Jimmy Vingno, chief of Philippine Coast Guard-Bacolod, said they have yet to receive an official communication from Zamboanga del Norte.

There was also no report from Hinoba-an Municipal Police Station about the missing fishermen, he added.

However, Vingno said they will check the information to verify the report. (GYM)
