New public terminal for Bacolod to rise

John Paul V. Pepito

A NORTHBOUND public terminal will soon rise in Bacolod City after a contract signing between the City Government and Crispin Chua, a contractor, will push through in due time.

Meantime, Mayor Evelio Leonardia is requesting the City Council to grant him the authority to sign a memorandum of agreement and deed of undertaking between the City Government and Chua for the new project of the city.

Chua is a private individual who complied with all the requirements set forth by a city ordinance for the construction of new terminal in the city.

Chua had tendered his offer to exclusively construct, operate, and manage the new facility.

Section IX of City Ordinance 480 states that: “The Northbound Terminal shall not be transferred to any other site that the site prescribed in the ordinance for a period of not less than 25 years.”

Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said the terminal is a private-public consortium which is of no cost for the City Government for only the private counterpart will spend for the construction.

He said the terminal will be built along Lacson Street in an area which should be at least 100 meters from junction of Banago Road up to Bacolod-Talisay boundary.

He added that the City Government is committed to provide the commuting public an effective traffic and transportation management with a regulated, systematic, convenient, safe, secure and comfortable public transport terminal.
