Police identify 2 drug surrenderers in fatal shooting

THE Police Station 8 named the two drug surrenderers killed and injured in a shooting incident in Purok Neptune, Barangay Sincang-Airport, Bacolod City, on February 26.

Chief Inspector Ruel Culanag, head of Police Station 8, identified the fatality as Joevin Villaremo, 26, of Cauayan town, who had been staying in Bacolod for almost two years.

Wounded was Raffy Cardeñas, 35, of the said village.

Culanag said both are under the station’s drugs watchlist.

He said four unidentified men arrived in the area past 1 a.m. and fired at Cardeñas.

Cardeñas was brought to a hospital but was later discharged.

Villaremo who was in the vicinity was shot to death by the same assailants, who were wearing bonnets, caps, and jackets.

The perpetrators then escaped on foot.

Police recovered from the scene two fired bullets and a live ammunition of .9 mm caliber pistol.

Culanag said they are considering the incident as drug-related, but still has no lead on the identities of the perpetrators.
