THE shrapnels found in the bodies of the Davao City night market explosion victims were similar to the ones found in the bodies of those who died in the bombings at the Davao airport and Sasa Wharf in 2003, Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) chief Dr. Leopoldo Vega said.

SPMC is one of the hospitals that treated the victims of the explosion at the night market on corner Padre Gomez St., Roxas Avenue, Davao City around 9:50 p.m., Friday, September 2.

Police, however, said that investigation is ongoing as of this posting, 3:40 a.m. Saturday.

The Davao International Airport was bombed on March 4, 2003. The blast killed 22 people and injured 143 others.

The Sasa Wharf bombing on April 2, 2003 left 17 dead and 56 people injured.

As of 1:40 a.m. Saturday, President Rodrigo Duterte is in the middle of an emergency command conference with concerned agencies at the Davao City Police Office. (With Pia Noreen Bilar/Sunnex)
