Zonta Cebu 2 tackles cyberbullying

Sunnexdesk

AN extremely relevant social issue, a campaign against cyberbullying was the thrust of the Zonta Club of Cebu 2, when they organized the forum, “Don’t be Mean Behind the Screen - Silence the Threat of Cyber Bullying.”

The series was held at two venues: The Social Hall of the Cebu Provincial Capitol and the Marcelo B. Fernan Cebu Press Center.

The disturbing issue was expertly handled by the following speakers: Ysrael Ace Diloy, who expounded on “An Overview of Internet Use/Social Media: Its Benefits and Dangers”; Adolescent Medicine specialist Emma A. Llanto, MD, who tackled “Cyber Bullying: The Offline Impact of Online Bullying”; and Priscilla G. Fernando, RPSY clinical psychologist, who presented “Profile of Cyber Bullies: Who They Are and Why They Do It.”

Last but not the least, Zontian Mae Elaine T. Bathan tackled the legal angle with “Legal Implications of Cyber Bullying: Salient Points of the Applicable Laws Against Cyber Bullying in the Philippines.”

After each dynamic speaker ended his talk, a lively and informative Question and Answer portion followed.

The forum had the usual unstinted support of the Cebu Provincial Government, with the welcome remarks delivered by no less than Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale.
