SANTA RITA Some 300 students in this town received educational assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development over the weekend.

The aid was processed with the help of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and local government.

The activity was led by Mayor Art Salalila.

Each of the beneficiaries received P1,000 for elementary students, P2,000 for high school students, P3,000 for senior high school students, and P4,000 for college and vocational course students.

Starting in 2022, the DSWD will devolve its programs to local government units (LGUs) as the government implements the 2018 Mandanas ruling of the Supreme Court, which would increase the internal revenue allotment of LGUs.

Meanwhile, a new directive from the DSWD central office stated that beneficiaries of the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and students with scholarship grants are disqualified to avail of the educational assistance of the agency.
