THE number of policemen in Central Luzon who contracted the virus that causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) has exceeded 1,000.

Based on the May 3 report of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon Health Services Office, the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases among police in the region was 1,081.

A total of 838 policemen, meanwhile, recovered from the disease while three have died.

PRO-Central Luzon Director Brigadier General Valeriano De Leon said policemen are continuously reminded to take extra caution in performing their duties to avoid being infected by the virus.

"As one of the frontliners in the fight against Covid-19, we cannot avoid having interaction with many people but we can take precautions so we constantly remind our people to protect themselves too," he said.

He added that regular testing of personnel and issuance of protective gears such as face masks, face shields and alcohol is conducted to provide extra layer of protection to policemen.
