Rebels not welcome in San Simon

SAN Simon Mayor Abundio Punsalan Jr. has warned rebel groups against operating again in the town.

San Simon, considered one of the border municipalities of Pampanga, was known as among the lairs of rebel groups, particularly New People's Army (NPA).

Punsalan said he will not allow NPA groups to interfere with the activities of barangays and local government, and disrupt peace and order in the town.

"They are not legitimate authorities, so they will never be allowed to meddle with our governance here. If all they can offer are conflict and disturbance, then they are not welcome here," he said.

Punsalan said he will make accountable any groups who will try to disrupt the peace and order and cause fear among the residents.

He also asked Simonians to never engage with NPAs or any other rebel groups as President Rodrigo Duterte's campaign against insurgency is strict.

"We have a peaceful community today and let's keep it that way. Let's be united in shunning away their presence in our town," he said.
