Vice guv cites impact of hoop league to youth

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Vice Governor Dennis Pineda on Thursday underscored the role of the recently concluded North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) Intertown Basketball Cup to the careers or aspiring Kapampangan basketball players.

In an interview, Pineda said that the experience gained by participants in the tournament can be significant in reaching for their respective goals in their careers, including becoming professional basketball players.

Pineda, who personally watched the well-contested championship game between Teams Apalit and Guagua, said that the “once in a lifetime” experience given by NLEx Corporation to the Kapampangan youth can be significant in the career of aspiring professional basketball players.

“This is a very important experience for them and a good opportunity for our youth in molding their sports career,” he said.

Pineda also said that the exposure and the support of the huge crowd during the competition can play a big role as players’ seek another level of competition in their career.

“This partnership with NLEX is likewise very important in developing their talents and skills, a consideration for including them in the NLEx team,” he said.

Pineda said that he plans to sustain such activity to be able to produce and scout skilled and talented Kapampangan youth who can bring pride to the province.

Meanwhile, Pineda lauded the efforts of all players, coaching staff and officials of participating cities and municipalities showcased during the competition.

He also vowed to provide support to excelling players who want to become big in the basketball industry.
