7 arrested for illegal fishing

SEVEN fishermen were arrested for illegal fishing in the municipal waters of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay on Tuesday morning, police said.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the fishermen were arrested around 10:45 a.m.

Arrested were, Romie Pamado, 45; Leo Bacatan, 52; Anijemar Carpio, 31; Loli Sumbisi, 45; Felipe Perocho; Debster Llido, 20; and, Sadil Sip-ingay, 18.

Galvez said a joint police and military team was conducting seaborne patrol when they chanced upon the fishermen onboard F/B Kaye Jean engaged in illegal fishing.

The fishermen face sanctions for violation of Republic Act 8550 as amended by R.A. 10654 otherwise known as “An act to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.”

Confiscated from the fishermen were a motorboat and fishnet worth P60,000.

They were turned over to the police headquarters of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay for proper disposition.
