Soldier hurt in Zamboanga del Norte gun attack

A SOLDIER was wounded in a gun attack in a remote village of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Friday, January 15.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday, January 13, in Malayal village, Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.

Duco identified the victim as Private First Class Rodel Ramos Daimba, 39, of the 26th Infantry Battalion based in Agusan del Sur who is a resident of Malayal, Sibuco.

Duco said Daimba was aboard a motorcycle on the way home from Lintangan village to Malayal when waylaid by an unidentified person.

He said the suspect shot the victim following a heated altercation and escaped.

He said investigation is ongoing to identify and arrest the suspect, who remained at large. (SunStar Zamboanga)
